The Museum of Volcanoes presents the evolution of energy and the formation of the Earth from the Big Bang, which occurred in the Universe approximately 13.7 billion years ago and the appearance of life 4.5 billion years ago.
The Museum is built at the entrance of a tunnel that enters the hill. The tunnel was made in the 70’s to analyze the quality of the hill and evaluate the possible creation of a hydroelectric plant. At present you can see the different sequences of ashes and volcanic flows in the area.
In the museum you will find the tusk of an Asian mammoth, some Mapuche silver objects, an important sample of large format locks used in mining deposits, a replica of the Capsule used to rescue the 33 miners from the collapse of the San José Mine in 2010 and the reproduction of a Curanilahue coal deposit, among others.
